At least twelve people died when a migrant boat carrying around 100 people capsized off Mbour, Senegal.
There were 32 survivors. The others probably fled before rescue services arrived at the scene, a security source told AFP.
Senegal is a common departure point for Africans taking the dangerous Atlantic route, especially to the Canary Islands, towards Europe.
Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and said the search for survivors continues. The day before, police stopped 123 migrants in Senegal's Thies region.
