In times of "fake news", April Fools' jokes have been considered excessive. Several media outlets have refrained from joking to avoid risking misleading readers. But some are maintaining the tradition.

Regular TV viewers got a good surprise when they turned on the TV on April 1. On Nyhetsmorgon in TV4, viewers were welcomed by hosts Pelle Nilsson and Alex Letic – who normally lead the competing Morgonstudion on SVT.

At the same time, SVT viewers were met by Rania Shemoun Olsson and Axel Pileby, who actually belong on TV4.

April, April, said Shemoun Olsson when she was back in place in the TV4 studio.

Elk Cavalry

Västerbottenstidningen Folkbladet writes that they have come across a leaked document from the Defense Forces, which reveals that Sweden will get its first elk cavalry.

"There is no animal more suited for battle than the king of the forest", the newspaper writes that it can be read in the report.

In the April Fools' article, AI-generated images of fully equipped soldiers riding on elk can be seen.

Also, Sydsvenskan publishes an article that reeks of April Fools' where it is announced that clothes must be recycled by color. The clothes must also be handed in at several locations around Skåne. White clothes will be recycled in Lund to quickly be transformed into rockers, bed linen, and other things needed in healthcare.

And for those who do not have a driver's license and cannot drive between locations? No problem.

"On Saturdays, the recycling bus Regnbågsexpressen will drive between the different centers", the newspaper writes.

Dismantle the Castle

Newspaper Dagen announces that several churches around Sweden are entering into sponsorships with different companies due to tough economic times.

Uppsala Cathedral will become Strawberry Cathedral, Filadelfiakyrkan in Stockholm will become Philadelphia Church, and Bet:L Church in Skövde will become Unibet:L.

It's not just Uppsala Cathedral that's being joked about; the city's castle is also falling victim to an April Fools' joke. UNT writes that the castle will be dismantled and moved. Moreover, it will be bent into a horseshoe shape to fit.
