Tusk warns Russian threats to Poland and Baltic states will increase

Poland warns that the threat from Russia will increase. “We can expect an escalation,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in Warsaw.

The warning comes after Poland said on Tuesday that it had thwarted a “potential provocation” on its border with the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.

“According to our sources and those of our allies, Russia’s threats will increase. The first targets will, of course, be the Baltic states and Poland,” Tusk said at a press conference in Warsaw with TT and other resident EU correspondents.

At the same time, he expressed hope that tensions would ease in the ongoing battle between his government and President Karol Nawrocki over control of Poland’s Constitutional Court.

“I will try to persuade him that it is in our common interest to reduce tensions, or at least keep them under control,” Tusk said.
