Turkish Police Raid Opposition-Friendly TV Channel, 11 Arrested

Turkish police raided the Ankara headquarters of opposition-friendly television channel Halk TV on Wednesday morning, the channel wrote on X.

"Police at Halk TV's building," the channel writes.

"Broadcasting stopped."

Eleven people were arrested during the raid, according to both the television channel and prosecutors.

The prosecutor says he has issued arrest warrants for a total of 17 people at Halk TV as part of an investigation into suspected bribery and money laundering.

The TV channel is close to the CHP (Turkey’s main opposition party) of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. Imamoglu is considered President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's main political rival and was arrested on corruption charges in March last year. The arrest led to widespread protests in the city.
