In the video published on X, Abdulkadir Uraloglu is seen in his car on a highway near Ankara. He is listening to folk music and speeches by Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. When the camera pans, the car's speedometer is seen fluctuating between 190 and 225 kilometers per hour – on a road with a speed limit of 140.
The video is accompanied by the hashtag #TurkeyAccelerates ("Turkey speeds up").
Hours after Uraloglu published the video, the Minister of Transport announced that he had received a speeding ticket.
"I got behind the wheel to inspect the Ankara-Nigde highway and unintentionally exceeded the speed limit for a short period. With the video, I in effect reported myself,” he wrote.
After the fine of 9,267 Turkish lira – just over 2,100 kronor – Uraloglu promises to be "much more careful" from now on:
"Complying with speed limits is mandatory for everyone.”
