Thousands of police officers participated in the operation, as well as dogs, drones, and helicopters.
Yerlikaya states that many of those arrested are suspected of having been involved in the sale of narcotics "in neighborhoods and on streets via internet-based communication platforms".
According to the Ministry of the Interior, more arrests will take place in the coming days.
Earlier in the week, police in Turkey and several EU countries struck against organized crime. More than 230 people were arrested in the operation, led by Europol and police in Spain, Germany, Turkey, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
