Joakim Medin is facing charges of terrorism in Istanbul for his journalism. Now Turkey is requesting that a Swedish court question Medin ahead of the trial, writes the newspaper Journalisten.

Turkey requests that the Swedish judiciary assist the Turkish court in the terror charges against Medin by questioning him in Sweden.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the issue now lies with the Swedish government.

I assume the government says no, otherwise they are participating in an authoritarian state's persecution of a Swedish journalist, says Joakim Medin to Journalisten.

At the same time, Medin says he wants to participate in the legal process so as not to be accused of evading Turkish legislation – and then become internationally wanted.

With an international wanted list, there is a risk that I will be extradited to Turkey if I travel around countries outside of Schengen.

The trial date is set for January 8.
