Turkey is considering providing military support to Syria's new government. Defense Minister Yasar Güler announces that the Turkish government "is ready to provide necessary support if the new administration requests it".
The statement comes a week after the fall of the Syrian Assad regime, when rebels led by the Islamist movement Hayat Tahrir al-Sham took power.
It was also announced on Friday that 50 tons of medical equipment will be flown into Syria via Turkey.
Turkey has for a long time supported various rebel groups that have controlled an area around Idlib in northwestern Syria under the collective name of the Syrian National Army. These have also had dealings with HTS, and analysts have estimated that the sudden offensive against Damascus is likely to have taken place with at least a blessing from Turkey's side.
