Kurdish fighters who have been crucial for the US in the fight against the terrorist organization IS cannot be allowed to have protection in Syria. This message was conveyed by Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in a phone call with his American counterpart Antony Blinken on Saturday.
The "PKK/YPG terrorist organization cannot be allowed to have protection in Syria", a spokesperson for the Turkish Foreign Ministry referred to the conversation.
Turkey equates the Kurdish YPG militia with the Kurdistan Workers' Party PKK, which is labeled as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU, and the US.
Fidan also emphasized during the conversation with Blinken that it is important to "cooperate with the new Syrian government to ensure stability in Syria".
