The Turkish Consumer Ombudsman has fined Adidas for false marketing.
The sports and clothing brand is convicted of using the expression "genuine leather" in an advertisement for the "Samba OG" shoe model without mentioning that it partly concerns pigskin.
Thus, Adidas used materials that go against "religious feelings of a majority" and therefore must be specified.
Adidas is sentenced to pay 550,059 Turkish lira, equivalent to around 163,000 kronor.
The German company states that it has updated the information on its website.
