Search Ends for Missing Person After Tugboat Sinks Near Piteå

We received a mayday call at 04.49 from a tugboat in distress off Piteå, just south of the Rödkallen lighthouse. The boat was sinking, says Johan Wahlström, press spokesperson at the Swedish Maritime Administration.

Four people were on the boat. Three of them managed to get onto the boat's timber raft.

At 09.30, the Swedish Sea and Air Rescue Centre assessed that it was no longer possible to find anyone alive and the search operation was discontinued, according to local media.
