A Japanese author, who in his book predicts a large tsunami in Japan on July 5, has made tourists cancel their trips to the country.

Manga author Ryo Tatsuki writes in one of his latest books that an earthquake will cause a large tsunami on July 5, reports Le Monde.

"The seabed between Japan and the Philippines will crack. Enormous waves will rise in all directions", it says among other things.

The prophecy has had unexpected effects on the Japanese tourism industry. Thousands of Taiwanese, Chinese and South Korean tourists have cancelled their summer trips to Japan.

The Tottori department in southwestern Japan reported in May a decrease in bookings from Hong Kong of almost 50 percent.

The Japanese government has stated that it "is impossible to predict earthquakes with current scientific knowledge".
