The sketches of the triumphal arch, which is intended to be erected for the United States' 250th anniversary this year, were filed on Friday with the commission that approves new architecture in the capital, according to The Washington Post.
At 76 meters tall, the arch is expected to be significantly taller than both the White House and the Lincoln Memorial. The Arc de Triomphe in Paris is 50 meters.
President Trump wants to build the monument on a small, government-owned plot of land below Arlington National Cemetery, in front of the bridge that leads across the Potomac River to the National Mall.
