Trump's Tariff Shock Hits Absolut Vodka

The USA has long been a major export market for The Absolut Company, which manufactures vodka in Åhus, Skåne. This can make the company vulnerable to the 200 percent American punitive tariffs that the President of the USA, Donald Trump, is threatening with.

In terms of volume, exports to the USA account for approximately 25 percent of the company's sales, reports EFN Ekonomikanalen.

In 2024, the company, owned by French Pernod Ricard, had a turnover of 7.9 billion kronor.

The trade association Swedish Producers of Alcoholic Beverages (SPAA) states in a press release that it would be "deeply unfortunate if the trade conflict regarding steel and aluminum were to affect the entirely unrelated trade in alcoholic beverages".

At the same time, they are grateful that Sweden's government and authorities are standing up for a "rule-based world trade order" and "willingness not to escalate global trade disputes".

"It is important to protect our domestic alcohol industry, its export opportunities, and thereby Swedish jobs."
