According to AFP, it is the first time a sitting American president has had his signature on U.S. banknotes, and the event coincides with the country's 250th anniversary.
"There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S. dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only right and fitting that this historic currency be issued on the 250th anniversary," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.
The United States celebrates its 250th anniversary on July 4th.
