The financing for 21 Swedish research projects at KI in Stockholm, reports Sveriges Radio's Science Radio. The reason is new requirements from the Trump administration on how collaborations with foreign universities are allowed to look in the country.

In total, almost 50 million kronor are now being withdrawn for the various projects at the Karolinska Institutionen.

The affected projects have different research areas, including HIV vaccine, autism, dementia, and schizophrenia.

The situation is very uncertain. We receive new information every day, says Björn Kull, head of the department for research support and external relations at KI, to the radio.

He views the situation "with dismay".

It is a dismantling of a fantastic research environment that has been built up over a long time in the USA and which now affects globally. I believe it can take many, many years to repair, if it is even possible to do so.
