Trump’s 76-Metre Washington Arch Halted by Federal Judge After Committee Approval

A committee approved plans for Donald Trump's 76-meter-high "arc of triumph" in Washington, D.C., on Thursday. However, shortly afterward, a federal judge halted the project.

The much-discussed monument, which the US president has spoken out in favour of, was approved by a city planning committee on Thursday, local time.

The Trump administration has said it aims to begin work immediately. But shortly after the committee’s decision, a federal judge ruled that work on the arch cannot begin for at least 14 days while a court hears objections to the project.

At 76 metres, the monument is intended to be significantly taller than the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, which served as its model.

Criticism has focused on the location, at Arlington Cemetery, and the financing of the construction.
