Trump sued the respected business magazine and its owner for $10 billion, equivalent to just over 90 billion kronor, in July over reporting on the president's connections to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The judge wrote in the decision that Trump had failed to show that the article in question was published with malicious intent. The president has the right to file a new, amended lawsuit.
The article concerned an erotically themed letter that Trump, the newspaper said, sent to Epstein on his 50th birthday in 2003. The signed letter contains text that forms the outline of a naked woman.
