In social media, Zelensky writes that 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died since Russia's war of aggression began in February 2022. Another 370,000 have been injured, according to the president.
Exact figures on fallen and injured soldiers - both Ukrainian and Russian - are difficult to verify.
The president emphasizes that Ukraine needs a "lasting peace" that Russia will not "destroy in a few years", according to the news agency AFP.
"The world is waiting"
The post came just hours after Trump, in a long text on his own platform Truth, commented on the deposed Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's flight from Syria and Russia's losses in the war of aggression against Ukraine.
About Kyiv's losses, he writes: "They have lost a tremendous number, 400,000 soldiers, and even more civilians" and adds that an immediate settlement should be reached and negotiations initiated.
"Too many lives are being lost and too many families are being destroyed, and if it continues, it can lead to something even bigger and much worse. I know Vladimir (Putin) well. Now is the time to act. China can help. The world is waiting for this!"
During the autumn election campaign in the USA, Republican Trump has claimed that he can end the Ukraine war in 24 hours. Trump met Zelensky on Saturday in Paris, where he participated in the re-inauguration of Notre Dame Cathedral during his first trip abroad since the election victory.
Took a village
Parallel to the developments, Russia claims to have captured another village in eastern Ukraine. It concerns Blahodatne in Donetsk, according to AFP.
Earlier, Russia claimed to have shot down 17 drones over the Belgorod region and 12 over Kursk, both at the border with Ukraine, during the night. A total of 46 drones were shot down during the night, the others were hit over Rostov and Astrakhan, according to information from the Defense Ministry in Moscow, as reported by AFP.
