The 18-year-old American, granddaughter of President Donald Trump, received a sponsor invitation to this week's LPGA Tour competition "The Annika".
The main reason was not her golfing achievements – she is only 461st in the US junior rankings – but her great impact on social media, including 2.5 million followers on Instagram.
That became obvious when the first round was played at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida.
Kai Trump had to fight from start to finish and after a total of nine bogeys and two double bogeys – and not a single birdie – she finished the day with 83 strokes, 13 over par.
It was four strokes worse than the second worst player in the competition, which is hosted by Swedish legend Annika Sörenstam.
Ryu Hae-Ran is in the sole lead at 64 strokes. Madelene Sagström made five straight birdies early on, overshadowing the South Korean, but the Swede lost after, among other things, a triple bogey on her penultimate hole.
Sagström and Linn Grant share eighth place at -2, four strokes off the lead.
