Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Sunday that Iran completely opposes talks with the USA and the country's nuclear energy program.
The response, which was also sent in letter form via intermediaries in Oman, followed Trump's written proposal earlier in March.
We do not want to avoid talks, it is previous broken promises that are the problem. They (USA) must prove that they can build trust, said Iran's President in a televised statement.
Trump's view on the issue came in an interview with the American TV company NBC:
If they do not agree to a deal, it will be bombed, and the bombings will be on a scale they have never seen before.
Earlier, Trump had threatened both economic and military actions against Iran if Tehran refuses to agree to a deal on the country's nuclear energy program.
Trump withdrew the USA unilaterally from an agreement with Iran from 2015 during his first term as President. The agreement meant that sanction relief was exchanged for limitations on Iran's nuclear technology program.
Since then, several alarms have been raised that Iran is on its way to manufacturing nuclear weapons – something that the regime in Tehran denies.
