"You have to win the midterm elections, because if we don't win, it's just going to be - I mean, they (the Democrats) are going to find a reason to impeach me," Trump told Republicans on Tuesday, according to U.S. media.
The president went on to call the Democrats "mean and smart."
"We never impeach them. Do you know why? Because they are more evil than we are."
Back in December, Speaker Mike Johnson warned of the same thing.
"If we lose the majority in the House of Representatives, the radical left (...) will impeach President Trump. They will create complete chaos. We cannot let that happen," he said.
Trump is the only American president to have already been impeached twice, in 2019 and 2021, but he was acquitted both times.
The midterm elections on November 3 concern, among other things, the entire House of Representatives and one-third of the seats in the Senate.
