According to The Washington Post, President Donald Trump wants the multistory tower, which is located towards the rear, to be moved closer to the centre. The reason: the navy's largest ship should be more reminiscent of those used during World War II, according to seven sources with knowledge of the matter.
It could cost billions and delay the entire project, where one ship is in service, one has been launched and two are being built.
The White House earlier this week requested a plan from the Navy to replace the modern electromagnetic catapult system, used to launch planes from the ships, with a steam- and hydraulic-powered system on the USS Doris Miller, which began construction this year.
