The US President Donald Trump writes on his platform Truth Social, where he also states that Venezuela is paying for the deportation from the USA.
The agreement applies, according to Trump, to "all Venezuelan illegal immigrants who have settled in the USA, including gang members".
The Wall Street Journal writes that it concerns tens of thousands of migrants who are now being flown back.
In his post, Trump welcomes home the six American citizens who were detained in Venezuela and released after the country's leader Nicolás Maduro had a meeting with Trump's special envoy Richard Grenell.
Maduro said after the meeting that he wanted to see a "new start" in the relationship with the USA. The Latin American country is under harsh sanctions from Washington.
The opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia, who, among others, the USA sees as Venezuela's rightful president, has, according to CNN, previously warned the USA against entering into a deportation agreement with Maduro.
