The US government has taken the battle over tariffs to the Supreme Court.

It was last week that a federal appeals court ruled that most of the tariffs that the Trump administration has introduced this year are illegal. Now, President Donald Trump is urging the Supreme Court to overturn the appeals court's decision.

The tariffs have been left unchanged for the time being, but the Supreme Court is still being urged to intervene quickly according to a motion filed late on Wednesday local time. This is because the US, according to the President, is on the "brink of economic disaster" without the import tariffs he introduced.
