The need for air defence systems – especially Patriot missiles – is great in Ukraine, according to the country's government. Among other things, the weapons are needed to protect against Russian attacks on cities and civilians.
This week, a meeting was held between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his US counterpart Donald Trump, where the weapons system was reportedly discussed.
Despite the meeting, Donald Trump says he has not decided whether any Ukrainian licence production of Patriot should be allowed.
"It's a very special weapon, and we have to be a little careful about who we grant permission to," Trump told the Financial Times .
