For the grand reopening this weekend, leaders from around the world are expected to attend. Trump's staff is reported to have been in contact with President Emmanuel Macron's team for some time to discuss the details of the visit, according to CNN.

On his own social media platform Truth, Trump sounds enthusiastic.

"President Emmanuel Macron has done a fantastic job and ensured that Notre Dame is restored to its full glory and more. It's going to be a very special day", he writes.

Macron and Trump's relationship has been described as something of a "bromance", although it has occasionally been marked by conflicts. Macron was the first foreign leader to congratulate the Republican after his election victory earlier this fall.

The 850-year-old Notre Dame was ravaged by a devastating fire in 2019, which destroyed the roof and toppled its mighty spire. Shortly after, Macron promised to rebuild the cathedral.
