The President of the USA, Donald Trump, will announce next week that the USA will start calling the Persian Gulf the Arabian Gulf, according to two sources with insight for the news bureau AP.
The statement is expected during Trump's trip to Saudi Arabia.
Several Arab countries have wanted to see a change in the name of the water located off Iran's southwestern coast.
The Persian Gulf has gone by that name since the 1500s, but has largely been referred to as the Arabian Gulf in many countries in the Middle East.
The USA's military has for several years only referred to the Arabian Gulf in statements and images.
