US President Donald Trump threatens to cut trade with the EU if Canada is made an associate member.
"If they do, and if I consider it to be in any way a hostile act, I will impose very high tariffs or cease trade with Europe," he says.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday that she wanted to "open the door" to Canada as the EU's first associated member, without going into what that would mean.
