Cuba should "make a deal before it's too late," US President Donald Trump writes - and receives a rebuke from the dictatorship's leader.

Trump's move comes after the U.S. attack on Venezuela in which Nicolás Maduro was captured, which has cut off the transport of Venezuelan oil to Havana.

"There will be no more oil or money to Cuba - zero!" Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, continuing:

"I strongly urge them to make a deal before it's too late!" It is not clear what type of agreement he is referring to.

The criticism was rejected in a post on X by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

"Cuba is a free, independent and sovereign nation. No one dictates what we do," he wrote, adding that the country is ready to defend itself "to the last drop of blood."
