Trump adviser Stephen Miller said Tuesday that the United States must “think very carefully about who we allow into our country, even temporarily,” because children born in the United States to foreigners can become American citizens and gain access to the social safety net, Axios reports.
The president has, according to White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson, ordered Congress to "take immediate action to address this."
The Department of Justice should prioritize investigations into what is called birth tourism, she told Axios.
It is estimated that there are between 20,000 and 26,000 cases of birth tourism per year in the United States.
