The background is that The New York Times reported that the university had received certain concessions in ongoing settlement negotiations with the US government, according to AFP.
The Trump administration has accused Harvard of being left-wing and promoting so-called "woke" ideology, as well as of not having adequately protected Jewish students during pro-Palestinian protests.
One billion dollars corresponds to approximately 8.9 billion kronor.
