The British sanctions were announced on Tuesday. The evening before, Prime Minister Andy Burnham reportedly informed the US president of the plan.
And Trump neither opposed the sanctions nor tried to persuade Burnham to change his mind, according to Axios' sources. Instead, US officials reportedly said they shared the British concerns about Israel's West Bank policy. Axios describes the reaction as a signal of growing American frustration with Israel's actions.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also did not condemn the sanctions when asked about the matter on Tuesday.
"Neither I nor the president have commented on this," he said.
Eleven countries, including Sweden, have joined the UK's initiative.
