US President Donald Trump has now signed the sanctions against Russia that Congress voted through earlier this week.
The sanctions target Russia's energy and defence sectors, President Vladimir Putin and other high-ranking officials, as well as the Russian so-called shadow fleet used to circumvent international sanctions.
The sanctions package received broad support from both parties in Congress.
