In January of this year, the United States carried out attacks in Venezuela and captured the country's president, Nicolás Maduro.

In a statement to Fox News on Monday, Trump reportedly said he was "seriously considering making Venezuela the 51st state of the United States," according to Fox News anchor John Roberts.

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, has stated that the country does not want to become part of the United States, adding that Venezuela "is not a colony, but a free country."

Trump’s remarks are far from the first of their kind. The president has repeatedly said that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States and threatened to annex the Panama Canal and Greenland.
