"The order has already been given, and the United States military is ready, willing and able to, for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension, completely destroy and annihilate all parts of Iran," Trump writes on Truth Social.
The president claims that 1,000 missiles are aimed at Iran, ready to be fired.
The move comes after several American media outlets reported in recent days that Iran has recently considered killing Trump, according to Israeli intelligence shared with the United States. Analysts also point out that it is in Israel's interest to get Trump to intensify military attacks against Iran.
Even before the Israeli information became known, the president had claimed that Iran wanted him dead. During this week's funeral ceremonies for Iran's former supreme leader Ali Khamenei - who was killed in US-Israeli strikes on the first day of the Iran-Iraq war - signs in the crowd called for Trump to be killed.
They want to destroy the leader of the United States – me. I'm on every list. I saw it this morning. And so far, I guess, I've been a little lucky, but it may not last very long, the American president told reporters during this week's NATO meeting in Ankara.
