The statement came during an appearance in Phoenix on Friday local time, after the president earlier claimed that Iran had agreed to hand over the enriched uranium.

"We will go in with Iran with lots of excavators," Trump said, referring to the remains of nuclear facilities bombed by the United States.

Iran has, however, dismissed the reports. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said, "Enriched uranium is as sacred to us as Iranian soil and will not be moved anywhere under any circumstances," according to the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim.

Following the Iranian response, Trump sharpened his tone on Saturday morning.

"Then we will take it in a much more unpleasant way. Regardless, we will get it done."

China may also enter the discussion. According to an AFP source, Beijing would be willing to take over the approximately 440 kilograms of uranium that the UN atomic energy agency, the IAEA, says has been enriched to 60 percent, or alternatively reduce the enrichment to levels that can be used for civilian purposes.
