The US announced in early May that it had launched a military operation to escort ships through the strait, but called it off the following day. US media later reported that the operation was continuing, but this was denied by the US military command, CENTCOM.
On Wednesday, data from the analysis firm Kpler showed that an oil tanker carrying two million barrels of crude oil is heading to Europe after passing through the Strait of Hormuz in late May.
It is the first oil ship bound for Europe to pass through the strait since early March, AFP wrote.
