“Ukraine is not convinced that Russia has any desire to follow an agreement,” the Ukrainian president writes about the conditions for a “ceasefire for energy facilities.”
He also emphasizes that an agreement must be long-term “and not collapse after the Russians have held their ‘elections’ and get a (temporary) relief in tensions over gasoline and diesel fuel,” with a view to the Russian parliamentary elections that begin on Friday.
"The war must end," Zelensky writes, noting that "de-escalation of critical infrastructure could be the first step towards peace."
This weekend, according to Kyiv Independent, he said on Ukrainian television that he wants to discuss a proposal not to attack grain exports and the energy sector with Trump in New York in connection with the UN General Assembly next week.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump writes that "the increase in diesel prices is mainly caused by the war in Ukraine, not Iran."
On Sunday, he urged Ukraine to stop attacking Russian energy facilities because "it is causing fuel shortages."
"We've talked to Zelensky about it, there are many other goals, but don't attack diesel, it hurts the world," Trump said at a press conference in Ireland, according to Irish RTÉ.
Russia imposed restrictions on diesel exports in July to address fuel shortages in the country, caused by Ukrainian attacks on the country's energy facilities.
