Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed not to attack Kyiv in the coming week, US President Donald Trump claims. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hopes that holds true.

"They've never experienced such cold in Kyiv. And I personally asked President Putin not to shell Kyiv and the surrounding area for a week, and he agreed to that, and I have to say that was very good," Trump said on Thursday.

Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for Trump's initiative via Telegram:

"Thank you to the American side for the efforts to stop the attacks on our energy sector at this time. We hope that the United States will succeed in this."

Ukrainian energy supplies are constantly under attack by Russia, causing widespread power outages.
