On Tuesday morning, several villages in southern Lebanon were attacked, according to state-run Lebanese news agency NNA. Israel reportedly carried out attacks with drones and artillery, killing at least four people, including two Syrian farmers.
Lebanon's regular army also said that two soldiers were injured in an Israeli drone attack in the Nabatieh area, The Times of Israel reported.
During the night, air raid sirens sounded over northern Israel and the country's military said it had shot down several projectiles from Lebanon. There are no reports of injuries.
"Hopefully forever"
Just hours before the renewed attacks, US President Donald Trump claimed that both Israel and the Iran-backed Shiite militia Hezbollah had agreed to stop attacking each other.
"We'll see how long it lasts - hopefully forever!" Trump wrote on Truth Social after talks with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah via mediators.
At the same time, the Lebanese government stated that Hezbollah had accepted the US proposal to stop attacking Israel, in exchange for the Israeli military ceasing its attacks on southern Lebanon.
New calls
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the same time that the country's stance had not changed - and that the Israeli military would continue its operations.
"If Hezbollah does not stop attacking our cities and residents, Israel will attack terror targets in Beirut," he said, according to The Jerusalem Post.
On Tuesday, new talks between Israel and the Lebanese government will be held in Washington, D.C. Hezbollah is not included in the negotiations.
