Trump also admits that the most likely successor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei - who was killed in an airstrike on the first day of the war - is his 56-year-old son, Mojtaba Khamenei.
But Trump wants to see a development similar to that in Venezuela, where the United States gains influence over the new regime.
"They're wasting their time. Khamenei's son is a lightweight. I have to be involved in the appointment, just like with Delcy (Rodríguez) in Venezuela," Trump told Axios.
Trump emphasizes that he wants to see a leader in Iran who does not continue Ali Khamenei's policies, otherwise the U.S. will have to bomb again "in five years."
