Trump’s new press secretary Katie Zacharia fired after just days on the job, reports say

The White House's new press secretary did not last long. Katie Zacharia was fired after just one press briefing and only a few days on the job, according to multiple reports in U.S. media.

The New York Times, Fox News and CNN, among others, are reporting, citing sources in the White House, that Zacharia has been let go. The reports came shortly after a press conference with US President Donald Trump, where he said he had asked her to "think again."

I said to her, "Katie, is this right for you?" I said, "Katie, you don't have to do this . . . honestly, if I were you, I would think twice," Trump said.

When asked if that meant she had been fired, he replied:

No, no. I want her to have a good life. She's been abused by the press.

Zacharia replaced Karoline Leavitt on Monday. Leavitt had held the position for a little over 1.5 years. Zacharia's first and seemingly only press conference took place on Tuesday. It was a rather nervous, 14-minute affair, with a few blunders and only three questions.

The aftermath has been dominated by questions about whether she is actually a lawyer, as both Trump and Zacharia herself have claimed.

In which state did she get her law degree, reporters wondered. When asked where she had moved to China, her answer was vague. She later admitted that she lacked such a degree.
