The Washington Post and The New York Times published information earlier this week that the president had secretly and hastily changed his plans upon leaving the summit in Turkey.
Trump now confirms that a switch took place. According to the president, the military and Secret Service had asked him to fly on another plane because of a threat.
I just have to do as they say.
According to the newspaper's sources, Trump was smuggled between the planes in a catering van.
The sequence of events appears to be shown in a video on X, published by John Hudson, a reporter for The Washington Post. In the clip, Trump is seen entering the presidential plane Air Force One, while a catering truck is parked on the other side of the plane. Five minutes later, the food truck drives off to another, smaller US government plane. According to the reports, Trump is said to have sneaked aboard that plane.
Corrected: In an earlier version of the text there was an inaccuracy regarding the date of the NATO meeting.
