"We agreed that Russia will immediately deliver more than 300,000 tons of diesel to the US and global markets, an additional 500,000 tons during November, and 1,000,000 tons immediately thereafter," Trump writes on Truth Social.

He adds that another 3 million tons of Russian diesel, equivalent to 22.5 million barrels, will be released shortly. He says the agreement is contingent on “the state of their diesel refineries.”

“Terror and betrayal”

"Thanks to our total control of the Strait of Hormuz and this fantastic news about Russian energy, diesel prices for Americans - and indeed for the entire world - will drop sharply and quickly," Trump claims.

Gifts to Vladimir Putin will not bring peace, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy writes in a post on X.

"Russia will 'pay back' the diesel with further terror and betrayal. Allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is an investment in a war that must be ended, not prolonged," Zelenskyy writes on X.

Does not mention the offensive war

Trump does not mention Russia's war against Ukraine or sanctions against Russia in his statement.

The US Treasury Department has issued a temporary license allowing Russian diesel to be traded on the US market, AFP reports.

Leaders of the G7 countries, including the United States, agreed last week to release 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil from their emergency reserves.

Moscow has been restricting diesel exports for several months to secure domestic supplies after Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries.
