The US president has previously threatened to kill whoever is appointed as Iran's new leader, and he has said a new leader "will not live long" if he is not approved by the US.
Last week, he told Axios that Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, is "a lightweight."
"I have to be involved in the appointment, like with Delcy (Rodriguez) in Venezuela," he said at the time.
