U.S. President Donald Trump's so-called peace council will meet on Thursday to discuss the future of the Gaza Strip. Ahead of the meeting, Trump is calling on Hamas, which is designated a terrorist organization, to disarm.

“Hamas must uphold its commitment to complete and immediate demilitarization,” Trump writes on Truth Social.

Trump also states that the Peace Council's member countries have so far pledged to invest five billion dollars, equivalent to almost 45 billion kronor, in the reconstruction of Gaza.

The group will discuss the next steps in the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas on February 19.

19 countries were involved when the council - which is chaired by Trump - was formally founded in Davos in January. Since then, a few more countries have joined. However, most of the invited Western countries, including Sweden, have declined.
