"The president has taken the use of force off the table. The future of Greenland is something for the Greenlanders themselves to decide," says Ambassador Ken Howery.
His words came during the opening of a new American consulate in Nuuk on Thursday.
Trump previously did not rule out military action to enforce his desire to take control of the autonomous Danish territory of Greenland. This led to a diplomatic crisis between the United States and Europe and within NATO.
