"This decision had no basis in fact, none whatsoever, and no basis in law," Trump said on Thursday evening, Swedish time.
The ruling, from 2009, states that six greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide and methane, pose a danger to public health by driving climate change.
The ruling initially applied only to vehicle emissions, but later became the legal basis for a broader set of climate regulations. Trump said Thursday that his administration would also eliminate greenhouse gas emissions standards for vehicles.
But the repeal could have further consequences and jeopardize a range of climate regulations, including limits on carbon dioxide emissions from power plants and methane emissions from oil and gas operations.
