This applies to the television channels CNN and MSNOW (formerly MSNBC) as well as the news site Politico.
The reason for the decision, according to Trump, is "their constant 'reporting' of fake news."
"Media should not be able to constantly write or report fiction and lies when covering the President of the United States, the Trump administration, or the United States," the president writes, partly in capital letters.
Trump adds that more media outlets may be covered by the decision.
At a later press conference in the Oval Office, Trump explains that this is not about any individual report, writes NBC News.

When asked how he reconciles the measure with the First Amendment to the American Constitution - which, among other things, guarantees freedom of the press and speech - he answers:

Donald Trump often has the major established media in the crosshairs and attacks individual reporters almost daily with harsh verbal attacks.
Previously, the American news agency AP was kicked out of the White House and the presidential plane as punishment for refusing to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico in its reporting. The AP has sued the White House in a lawsuit that is still ongoing.
Trump has also, when he has been dissatisfied with reporting, taken legal action in several cases, for example against The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and the British BBC.
